Dick Building Company was the general contractor for University of Pittsburgh’s classroom renovations in the Cathedral of Learning. The project focused on expanding and modernizing space for the Film and Media programs, resulting in the creation of 3,900-sf of classroom and lab space.
The scope included demolition in existing underutilized areas and abatements. Also included were the construction of new interior partitions, ceilings, painting and hollow metal frame doors designed for openings that require enhanced durability and security. Flooring, windows, wooden doors, and MEP systems were also a part of the scope. The renovation further encompassed related circulation corridors, storage rooms, and closets. Close coordination with the University’s Project and Facilities Manager resulted in minimal disruption to day-to-day operations. Given that the building and adjacent classrooms were in use during construction, carefully coordinated safety measures, including barricades and partitions, were implemented to protect against noise and dust, ensuring the safety of faculty and students. This space is being utilized and is a welcome addition to the growing Film and Media Studies program.
