Who We Are

Douglas P. Dick is co-founder, Chairman and CEO. Throughout his career, Mr. Dick has focused on the areas of strategic planning, client and market development, and community and government relations. In these roles, he has also led the firm’s geographic and market diversification. Mr. Dick’s industry experience and his commitment to the community has brought leadership, knowledge, and success to the company. Currently, Mr. Dick serves on the boards of The Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh and Caron Renaissance Florida and was the past President of the Epilepsy Association of Western Central PA (EAWCP) and The Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh. He is an active board member for The Children’s Hospital Foundation, Ear & Eye Institute of Pittsburgh, and UPMC Cancer institute. Mr. Dick is a Past President of the Board of Directors for the Master Builders Association of Western Pennsylvania and is a former member of the Construction Industry Roundtable.

 

Alex was interested in construction at the young age of 8 after his father let him hit the button that triggered the implosion of a bridge on the Monongalia River. Since then, his fascination has matured and after years of experience in the field, and in the estimating and operations departments he and Douglas spearheaded the emergence of Dick Building Company in 2008. 

With more than two decades in the industry, Alex has extensive knowledge and experience in the areas of pre-construction, design coordination, procurement and project management. As COO, he is involved in each phase of the construction process.

Alex is a leader in the use of and advancement in technology to improve quality, productivity and safety in the industry and specifically for Dick Building Company. He led the selection and implementation of the company’s project management, estimating and accounting systems as well as the safety programs that facilitated the rapid growth of the firm. Alex is very engaged in building relationship with clients and partners and appreciates each opportunity’s unique challenges.  

Alex is a third-generation member of the Board of Directors of the Master Builders Association of Western Pennsylvania. An active member of the community, he also serves on the Board of Trustees at St. Edmund’s Academy, the Human Services Center Corporation, the Pitcairn-Crabbe Foundation and is a 2019 graduate of Leadership Pittsburgh. 

Gary Lotz has over thirty-five years of experience in the engineering, construction and design industry. He has served in a variety of executive, operations, business development and external affairs positions for several of the region’s leading firms. Gary was one of the earliest members of the Design Build Institute of America (DBIA). This led to an emphasis on and success with projects that are complex due to logistical, scheduling, financial or environmental considerations.  

Gary has extensive knowledge of alternate project delivery systems, including design/build, design/build/leaseback, public private partnerships and special purpose entities. His experience in strategic planning includes acquisitions, divestitures and corporate reorganizations. Gary is a graduate of the University of Virginia with a B.A. in Economics and Foreign Affairs and received his MBA at Tulane University in New Orleans, LA. 

Jeff has over eighteen years of experience within the construction industry. In his current role he oversees all construction activities for Dick Building Company in the Pittsburgh region. He manages the project team from inception through project completion and close-out. Throughout the duration of each project, Jeff ensures that our team is working in accordance with company policies and that our operations are meeting the high standards set by our principals. He makes certain that our performance on each project generates mutual trust and leads to a long-term relationship. Jeff received a B.S. from the University of Pittsburgh in Civil Engineering as well as a B.A. in Mathematics from St. Vincent College.
